Sometimes a Book Finds You Right When You Need It

Y'all...

I've read a few books in my time, but this one? This one was different.

Take Me With You When You Go by David Levithan and Jennifer Niven is officially the first book that ever made me cry. Not because it was trying to squeeze tears out of me, but because I saw myself in B.

I understood her.

I understood what it feels like to keep everything bottled up inside. I understood the overthinking, the shutting people out, the way life gets so loud you just stop talking. This wasn't just another book to me. This book became an experience.

My First (Very Wrong) Thoughts

When I started reading, I honestly thought B left home to go meet another guy. That's really what I thought. She had a boyfriend, she left without telling anybody what was going on, and I just knew a man had something to do with it.

Baby, I could not have been more wrong.

The more I read, the more I realized this story wasn't about a relationship at all. It was about family. It was about pain. It was about healing and trying to find peace after carrying hurt for way too long. Every chapter pulled me in deeper, and before I knew it, I couldn't put it down.

Why I Connected With B

B carried so much on her shoulders. She kept it all inside. Her brain never stopped running, and she had so many thoughts and emotions she didn't know how to say out loud, so instead of talking, she shut down.

That part touched me because I know exactly what that's like.

Sometimes life gets so overwhelming you don't even know where to start. So instead of opening up, you smile. You pretend you're okay. You keep moving. But inside, you're carrying things nobody knows about. That's why B's story hit different for me.

My Favorite Part

My favorite moment came near the end, when Izzy finally decided to pack his bags. Earlier in the book, when B asked him to leave with her, he wasn't ready. He kept saying he couldn't just leave his boyfriend and everything he knew behind.

I understood his fear.

But when he finally told B, "I'm on my way," y'all... I was smiling so hard. I knew they were finally about to have each other again, and after everything they'd been through, they deserved that moment.

What This Book Taught Me

If I had to sum up the lesson, it's this: stop keeping everything bottled up inside.

That's exactly what B did. She carried so much pain that she slowly stopped talking to people. She pushed everyone away and kept it all to herself. Her story reminded me how important it is to speak up, even when it's hard, even when you're scared, even when you think nobody will understand. Holding everything in doesn't make the pain disappear. Sometimes it just makes it heavier.

That lesson stayed with me long after I closed the book.

The Ending

I loved the ending. I won't spoil it because I really want y'all to experience this one for yourselves, but watching B and Izzy finally move toward a better future made me genuinely happy. After everything they went through, they deserved peace.

When I finished the last page, my first thought was, "I hope there's a Part Two." Did they finally find happiness? Did life get easier for them? Did they finally get the peace they'd been chasing? I really hope so.

If B Were Sitting In Front of Me

Girl, keep going. Don't look back. Don't let your past stop your future. You survived so much already now it's time to live, time to heal, time to choose yourself. You deserve happiness. You deserve peace. And no matter what, don't ever stop believing in yourself.

Would I Recommend This Book?

Without a doubt, yes. I'd recommend this book to every girl who needs a good cry. To anyone dealing with family problems, anyone who feels misunderstood, anyone carrying emotional pain, anyone trying to heal. This book reminded me I'm not alone sometimes somebody else's story helps you finally understand your own.

My Final Thoughts

This wasn't just another book. It stayed with me long after I finished it. It reminded me that healing doesn't happen overnight, that it's okay to ask for help, and that it's okay to cry and be honest about what you're feeling. Most of all, it reminded me that even after everything life throws at you, there's still hope.

This was the first book that ever made me cry, and if I had the chance? I'd read it all over again.
