People Make Time for What Matters, So I’m Done Forcing It

Hey, my beautiful readers! Welcome back to My Sassy Stories, where I share my life honestly, what I’ve experienced, how I felt, and what each season has taught me. Today I want to tell y’all how my week has been, because a lot has happened and my heart has a lot to say. So, let’s get into today’s story.
Today is Wednesday. I told myself I was going to write every Monday, and I didn’t. But that’s okay. I’m here now, and that’s what counts. I’ve stayed consistent with reading the Word, even though life got so busy that I fell off a little. Y’all know how it goes when everything happens at once.
We’re Moving Up the Street
Yes, we are moving up the street, and I am so happy. We got the house. Avery is painting it as I’m talking to you, right now, and it still feels surreal.
Me and Avery have been loving on each other again. It’s been months, and it hasn’t been perfect, because marriage isn’t perfect and we know that now. But ever since I told him how I honestly felt, being open and honest with him, it honestly helped me. God gave us a second chance to do it right.
I told Avery how happy I am, because now I can get my ID with his last name on it. I opened a bank account so I can save money, and now I can add him to it. I never did that before. He’s my husband, and he means so much to me. The kids love him too.
When the DNA Test Didn’t Bring Anybody Home
Yesterday I was on Facebook, looking at the people I reached out to, and something hit me.
Back in June, I took a DNA test. I thought it was my way to connect with family I never knew. I reached out to maybe five of them. Now it’s October, and not one has reached back.
I thought, wow. People make time for what they want to make time for. And I guess I’m just not that one.
Then there’s my dad. A couple days ago I reached out to him, and I gave myself a little hope. I told myself he would call me back. My head was running with all kinds of thoughts about him. And still, no answer.
Yes, y’all. No answer.
I’m Tired of Forcing It
So I said it out loud to Avery. I’m tired of forcing things. I don’t care anymore whether people make time for me or not. I’m about to move on.
I’m not going to pretend I’m not hurt. But look at what we have. A nice house. A life where we can save, go on trips, live peacefully, and make money. I’m a substitute teacher, and Avery even got a job at the school.
Avery told me, “I know you’re hurt, but don’t let them dim your light. They don’t want to be a part of your life, and it’s okay.”
He also reminded me that sometimes God removes people, and that’s okay, but it doesn’t have to be the rest of your life. They’ll come around when they’re ready. Or Tasha, my old friend, will finally reach out. And that’s fine.
But when he said that, I said, you know what? That’s okay. I don’t want her to reach out. I like my life. She was causing me stress, just like my mama and my sister were. Even if they’re not happy for me, I am still thriving every day.
If the family comes around, that’s fine. But I’m not waiting on them. I still have things to do. I still have to take care of me, my family, and Mocha.
Healing Together, All of Us
We are all going to counseling. The kids have their first session coming up on Thursday, October 22nd. I wish I had gotten them help sooner, but I’m glad I’m doing it now, and that’s the only thing that matters. I’m getting help too, with my reactions, my attitude, and everything I’ve been working on. Avery is going too. We all want to be the best version of ourselves.
Mocha Graduated
Avery let Mocha out in the yard. I had left her, because Mocha pulls on me, and I went walking by myself. Then Avery let her out the gate alone. She started walking around, then she started running. Avery thought he would have to run after her. But guess who came back inside the gate and onto the porch? Mocha.
We thought she was going to take off. Instead, she came home. So while Avery paints, I ordered pizza, and Mocha is getting a slice, because she definitely graduated.
Still Building
On top of everything else, I have two businesses. On eBay, I have four bids and nine watchers on my magazine. I have a long way ahead of me, and I have to put my inventory together. I’m hiring my kids, because I’m going to need help, but I’m taking it one step at a time.
What I Learned
I asked God for this, and He showed up. Not everybody made room for me, and I’m learning that’s okay, because I finally made room for myself. I’m done forcing things. I’m going to better me.
Have you ever had to stop waiting on someone to show up for you? Tell me in the comments.
Until next time, be Breezy.
