The Steps I’m Taking Throughout My Healing Journey

Hey, my beautiful readers! Welcome back to My Sassy Stories, where I share my life honestly, what I’ve experienced, how I felt, and what each season has taught me. Today I want to share what I’m actually doing to help myself heal, y’all. So, let’s get into today’s story.

These are the everyday things that give me room to think, strengthen my faith, and help me take care of myself while I face the harder parts. Here are three steps I’m taking throughout my healing journey.

1. I’m Walking With Mocha and Giving Myself Room to Think In Healing

When I have a lot on my mind, I take my dog, Mocha, for a walk.

Sometimes I just need to get outside, move around, and have a little space to think about what I’m feeling. Having Mocha with me helps. She’s my dog, but she’s also my companion.

There’s comfort in having her beside me while I sort through my thoughts. I don’t always come back with everything figured out, but that time gives me a chance to breathe.

Even this blog started while we were out walking. I had something on my heart, and that walk gave me room to start putting it into words. So walking Mocha is something I’m continuing to make time for, especially when my mind feels full.

2. I’m Spending Time Learning the Bible

Another step I’m taking is spending an hour every other day reading my Bible.

I’m learning the Word, paying attention to the verses, and trying to memorize some of them. I want to understand what I’m reading and give myself time to think about how it connects to my life.

That’s part of why Job story has stayed with me. As I read about his pain, his questions, and his faith, I find myself reflecting on my own experiences.

I’m still learning, okay? I don’t know everything, and I’m giving myself time to understand. This is time I’m setting aside to be with God, ask questions, and grow in my faith as I continue healing.

3. I’m Exercising and Taking Care of Myself

I exercise because it helps me keep going and keeps my energy up.

I also make myself a nice little smoothie every morning, and I try to remain positive throughout the day. Those are simple things, but they’re ways I’m making an effort to care for myself.

I know every day won’t feel good. There will still be moments when I’m frustrated, sad, or carrying something heavy. Trying to stay positive means giving myself encouragement while being honest about those feelings.

I want to keep making room for movement, nourishment, and things that help me feel good in my everyday life.

I’m Continuing the Work, Even When It Gets Hard

Walking Mocha, learning my Bible, exercising, and taking care of myself are steps I’m taking while I work through the deeper hurt.

I still have things to face. Feelings I’ve pushed aside. Experiences I don’t enjoy talking about. Relationships I need to look at honestly.

Facing those things will take time. Sometimes it may mean having a difficult conversation when it feels safe and necessary. Other times it may mean accepting what happened and keeping my distance. I can work through my feelings without giving somebody access to hurt me again.

What matters to me is continuing to show up for my healing.

Some days that will look like opening my Bible. Some days it will look like getting outside with Mocha or making time to exercise. And some days it will mean admitting, “This is still hard for me, and I need support.”

What I Learned

Healing doesn’t have to start with one big moment. For me, it’s walking Mocha, opening my Bible, moving my body, and showing up again the next day, including the days I have to say I need support.

I’m still healing, and I’m making time for that healing in my everyday life. As I continue this blog, I want to share what I’m learning through it: the progress, the difficult days, and the things that help.

What is one small thing you do on a hard day to take care of yourself? Tell me in the comments. I read every one.
